Hello again, welcome to Silhouette World with Sublimonchis, today I am going to show you the process of how to apply a basic heat transfer vinyl on a cotton shirt.
How to Use Heat Transfer Vinyl Step by Step
Well colleagues here we have the design that we are going to apply on t-shirt, here we have a design with enough details that was cut in our Silhouette Cameo 4, we can customize it either with a phrase or with a name .
I want to show you also the type of details that we can cut with our Silhouette Cameo 3, regardless of the the limits of Cameo 4 that is 30 centimeters or 12 inches, keep it in mind when you invest in this type of machine like a cutting plotter or heat transfer vinyl, there are different types and quality of vinyl, that we will talk about in another video so that you will learn how to recognize quality of vinyl, but I want you to take into account that even though Silhouette Cameo 4 is a small plotter which limit us in its cutting area, We can cut desings with small details even if they are very small.
I want to comment for example in basic heat transfer vinyl carrier sheet does not have glue, besides this vinyl is a little thicker, therefore it will feel a bit more on the t-shirt.
Something very important of the heat transfer vinyl is that we must cut it in mirror mode so that when we place the HTV in our garment, we will have the design in the correct way as in this case.
I also want to show you that I am going to use a t-shirt that is made of cotton to apply HTV, we are going to use it in black color and right now I will explain more about the arrangement of heat transfer vinyl before going to iron it.
Here I have a preview of where it will be place when we ironed our HTV design.
Times and Temperatures Heat Transfer Machine
Parameters of time and temperatures for the basic heat transfer vinyl I\’m going to use 150 degrees centigrades or 302 in fahrenheit degrees, for 15 seconds on a flat heat press of 15 by 15 inches and I will be using a brown colored teflon sheet to protect from not leaving to pass excess heat over garment or HTV, excess heat may affect adhesive of heat transfer vinyl when you iron the t-shirt, the pressure of the iron we are going to use is medium pressure to high pressure.
We are going to begin our process for the placement of the HTV I will place my garment, we will remove any excess of fluff, we will place it and we will give a pre-ironing of three seconds to avoid wrinkles and also some excess moisture, I want you to see that here we have the label to have reference to center and I remind you that we are going to iron twice because heat transfer machine press is 15 by 15 larger than the design we have here.
Then I place our heat transfer vinyl design, see this, only a part of the design is inside of ironing area for first pressing, we must also take these seams as reference, seams of the sleeve to make a better centered, and I will place thermal tape so that it does not move when we place the other part of design.
Well all is ready to give our first ironing as I had said 150 Celsius degrees or 302 Fahrenheit for 15 seconds the first ironing and with some cloth we are going to give a pass to our textile vinyl so that it adapts better to our surface.
Next we are going to give a second ironing to our textile vinyl design, now if we are careful move up a little our garment and go with the next ironing equal 150 celsius degrees or 302 fahrenheit for 15 seconds, then we try to place the best possible in our base, at the end of process we will give another pass with rag.
I want to tell you something about the different types of vinyl that we are going to be using in this channel, there are some vinyl that come off in cold as in this case basic heat transfer vinyl and there are others that come off when it is hot.
Well, let\’s wait some minutes, when it\’s cool, I\’m going to remove thermal tapes first, well now that it is already cold I\’m going to remove our liner or transporter plastic, I will remove it carefully to see if any of parts are well attached if not we will go back to give another ironing.
How to Remove Heat Transfer Vinyl Carrier Sheet
Something very important in removal of liner or carrier sheet, I want you to see is that liner removal will do it from top to bottom in diagonally and carefully so that we are not going to peel off HTV design, and there we have our first part. Second part that is the lion should be more careful because it has many small details.
Finally we will give a few seconds more to have a better adherence, directly but with our teflon sheet, it will be ironed for three extra seconds so that you have a better adherence our heat transfer vinyl with our t-shirt, three seconds, we move it up, three seconds and now we already have a t-shirt completely ready with HTV.
